President Muizzu vows to announce list of flat and land recipients before year‑end

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has confirmed that the government will announce the names of all beneficiaries for both flats and land plots under his Administration’s “Housing for All” scheme before the end of 2026, underscoring his administration’s commitment to a merit‑based housing rollout.
Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office, President Muizzu described housing as the biggest promise of this government to the people, assuring that he would deliver on the pledge. He added that any unit or plot allocated by his administration would go to the person who truly deserves it, stressing that no allocation would be made on the basis of personal or political connections.
The President outlined the selection process, noting that applicants for flats will be ranked according to a points system, and the list of recipients will be made public later this year so that each applicant can see which flat has been assigned under which project. Recipients of land will also be notified within the same timeframe, he said.
On construction timelines, President Muizzu revealed that the foundation work for the majority of the new apartment blocks in the greater Male’ region is slated to begin in July, expressing strong confidence that the units will be completed latest by July 2028.
Regarding the land‑allocation scheme, the President disclosed that the award of plots is contingent upon the completion of dredging work at Rasmale’. Around 60 percent of the dredging has been completed, but high oil prices have caused delays. The government plans to deploy two dredgers to accelerate the work, with the aim of finishing the dredging before the end of 2026, he added.
The housing initiative has attracted massive public interest where a total of 58,505 applications have been submitted, with 35,930 for flats and 22,575 applications for land.
