‘Nasheed cannot partake in the political dialogue’ – Spokesperson

The Spokesperson at the President’s Office، Ibrahim Muaz Ali has stated that former President Mohamed Nasheed، proposed by opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for the Conference of Political Parties، cannot partake in the political dialogue with the Government.
On a tweet he posted earlier today، Muaz said that although a person serving a prison sentence was included in the list، the chance cannot be given.
Ex-President Nasheed is serving a 13 year prison sentence on terrorism charges.
Furthermore، Muaz stated on another tweet that the delegates proposed by the three parties can move forth to join the political dialogue as long as they do not have any health، legal or administrative objections.
MDP proposed former President Mohamed Nasheed، chairperson Ali Waheed and PG leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in their delegation to meet with the Government.
The Government will discuss on issues pertaining the disputes among the political parties، seeking solutions to the disputes within the constitutional framework، collaborative works with the political parties on enhancing the sovereign system، judicial system and the democratic system of Maldives and further collaborative ventures for the development of the country.
The Government also extended invitation to Jumhooree Party and Adhaalath Party for the Conference of Political Parties.
The Government’s delegation for the political dialogue with JP and AP consists of Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb، President’s Office Minister Mohamed Hussain Shareef، Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim.
