Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) has introduced ATM service, along with several new services in the Maldives.
Customers can withdraw money, check account balance and request for cheque books and bank statements using the “faisaa card” (cash card) introduced today.
MIB said that customers can collect cheque books and statements at the bank after requesting them using the faisaa card.
The PIN number of the card can be changed whenever a customer wants. For greater security, it is necessary to key in the PIN number for every transaction.
Chief Operating Officer Harish Haroon said that the card is called “faisaa” card following the Dhivehi word for cash, “faisaa”.
At a ceremony held to introduce the card today, Haroon said that the word faisaa was chosen to distinguish MIB’s ATM card from that of other banks, and that the same name will be used when they introduce more services such as e-banking.
Head of Card Centre Ahmed Riza said that although the card is introduced today, MIB’s POS service has not yet been introduced. This service is currently in test phase. He further said that faisaa card services are not available outside Maldives.
“In order to provide this service abroad, we have to join a network such as VISA. This can only be done after about three years of bank service,” Riza said.
MIB has installed two ATMs, one in their Head Office on Ameer Ahmed hingun and the other in IGM Hospital.
COO Haroon said that the plan is to set up three more ATMs in Male’ before the end of the year.
He also said that great support is received for MIB’s services, and that they plan to open branches in the atolls in the future.
