A Modern Mosque is Being Built on the Site of Diddhoo Masjidurrahma

The foundation stone for a modern mosque to be built on the site of Diddhoo Masjidurrahma was laid today.
The foundation stone for the mosque was laid by the Chief Imam of the Islamic Centre, Asshaikh Mohamed Latheef, and the President of Diddhoo Council, Abdulla Rasheed, during a ceremony held in Diddhoo today.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, senior officials of the Ministry, the Member of Parliament for Diddhoo constituency, Abdul Latheef Mohamed (Latheebey), as well as council members, heads and staff of institutions, and the general public of the island.
Abdulla Rasheed, President of Diddhoo Council, told “Thiladhun” that the mosque will have a capacity for 1,200 people. He also stated that the process of contracting the construction of the mosque is currently in its final stage.
“The site where Diddhoo Masjidurrahma stood has been cleared for the construction of a new mosque. The process of awarding the contract is now in the final committee stage. It will be awarded very soon, and this project is expected to cost around 15 million [MVR],” Rasheed said.
While the foundation stone for a modern mosque on the site of Diddhoo Masjidurrahma was laid today, the island already has three mosques where Friday prayers are held, including the mosque located within the Islamic Centre that was inaugurated today.
