EPA demands Housing Ministry to plant six for every palm tree chopped off in L. Gan link road project

As 2536 palm trees are to be chopped off for the construction of the Laamu Gan Link Road، Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has demanded Housing Ministry to plant 6 palm trees for each palm tree chopped off during the process.
Director General of EPA Ibrahim Naeem told Vaguthu that EPA has already shared their concerns with the Housing Ministry and stated their demands as to replace every palm tree chipped off with the plantation of six palm trees.
He said that it is an alarming concern that a large amount of palm trees are to be chopped off and the best way is to re-locate the plants rather than chopping off. Naeem further said the demands are set as per the regulations mandated under the Law.
The link road is constructed by Chinese Xiangzhou Provincial Transport Engineering Group، and will be constructed using asphalt which will measure 15.1 kilometers in length. The Chinese Government has invested a total of $30 million for the project، and the project is set to complete in 18 months from commencing.
