The foundation stone has been laid for a mosque in Bangladesh built in memory of late Maldivian religious scholar Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed Ahmed. The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Fareed’s two sons, who laid the foundation stone on behalf of the family.
Sheikh Fareed passed away at the age of 53 while at the airport en route to deliver a religious lecture in Malaysia. He was later buried in Malaysia, where he had travelled for the engagement.
In honour of his legacy, Khidumaiy Society launched a mosque project in Bangladesh and opened the initiative to public contributions. The full amount of MVR 700,000 needed for the construction was raised within just one day, reflecting the strong public support for the project.
During the ceremony, Sheikh Fareed’s family and representatives from Khidumaiy Society expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the generous support and solidarity shown by the Maldivian public. A video of the foundation-laying ceremony has since been shared publicly.
