Former President Mohamed Waheed returns to Maldives

Former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan returns back to Maldives today، after spending a lengthy period abroad.
Ex-president Dr. Waheed has returned back to his home country after living abroad، at New York، United States. He had traveled to Mecca to attend the auspicious Islamic praying ritual of Umrah during the month of Ramadan before heading back to Maldives.

During his extended stay at New York، Dr. Waheed attended the international congress at Council of Socialist International where he had been a key-note speaker، discussing of the adverse and ill effects of climatic change imposing various degrees of environmental threats to Maldives.
At the congress he highlighted on the disastrous effects of climatic change and threats associated with it to tropical low-lying countries like Maldives and spoke over the decisions which needs to be focused and concluded at the Cop21 meeting at Paris.

Dr. Waheed traveled to Mecca during Ramadan on July 12th to attend Umrah، he concluded the prayer ritual on 14th July following which he spent the remainder of Ramadan at Mecca. He had met with King Salman of Saudi Arabia during Eid-Ul-Fitr.
According to reports، the former President had made his way to Maldives in order to participate in the “Minivan 50” activities upcoming on 26th July.
