One-Year visa for Maldivians seeking medical treatment in Sri Lanka

The President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said on Monday that Sri Lanka has decided to issue one-year visas to Maldivians going to Sri Lanka for medical treatment as well as the spouses of Maldivians studying and working in the country.
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is currently on a state visit to Maldives.
This statement was made by President Muizzu in a joint statement delivered by both presidents at the President's Office. President Muizzu expressed gratitude to Dissanayake for the decision.
The President further stated that the meeting between the two nations encompassed discussions on a multitude of issues.
Among these the President mentioned trade, education, defence, vocational training, youth relations, fisheries and agriculture as the sectors.
The agreements and discussions made between the two countries will further strengthen the relationship between the two countries, he said.
He also mentioned that the agreement signed to combat crime will assist in decreasing such occurrences, and the MoU signed to offer essential training to the youth in the foreign services will create additional training opportunities in that sector.
Maldives established political relations with Sri Lanka on July 26, 1965. So this year marks the 60th anniversary of the relationship between the two countries.
This visit marks President Dissanayake's first to Maldives since he assumed office in September 2024; his departure is scheduled for Wednesday.
