Public Service Media (PSM) has launched a new award, the ‘Chaalu Dhivehi Raajje Award’, aimed at recognising the achievements of island communities.
The award was introduced by PSM’s Chairperson Aiminath Namza at a ceremony held at PSM's TV Building.
The Chaalu Dhivehi Raajje Award recognises and honours the efforts of island residents to protect the environment and promote the Maldives’ rich culture and traditions. The award seeks to foster a sense of patriotism among island residents, to shape their lives with sustainable practices, and to encourage the promotion of local tourism, while celebrating the achievements of islands at the national level.
The Chaalu Dhivehi Raajje Awards will be presented in seven categories:
- Most Beautiful Beach
- Friendliest Community
- Innovative Thinking in Sustainable Development
- Cleanest and Most Environmentally Friendly Island
- Most Responsible Island in Local Tourism
- Most Pleasant Island Destination
- Most Charming Island of the Year
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Namza said she hoped the award would generate strong competition, and encouraged all islands to participate. She said the number of award categories would be increased in the future.
The opportunity to nominate islands for the Chaalu Dhivehi Raajje Award is open to city councils and island councils. Submissions can be made via http://psm.mv/chaalu_award. The deadline for submissions is 10 September.
