The Maldives government has officially launched efforts to introduce international payment services such as PayPal, Amazon Pay and Google Pay in the Maldives.
Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Dr Aishath Shahda Abdullah said the introduction of such international payment services in the Maldives is highly desired by Maldivian professionals and entrepreneurs. To achieve this goal, the government has submitted formal proposals to the service providers and initiated discussions with them, she said.
"Official proposals have already been sent to introduce PayPal, Amazon Pay and Google Pay. In addition, multiple high level discussions have been held," she said.
The introduction of international payment services will make it easier for Maldivian businesses and self-employed individuals to receive payments from abroad. This will be a huge improvement especially for online businesses and freelance workers in the country.
The introduction of International payment platforms such as PayPal and establishing a comprehensive payment gateway system is a presidential pledge of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
