The Government had issued an invitation to opposition MDP to discuss on the issue of the arrest of former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Speaking to Miadhu, Fisheries Minister Dr. Mohamed Shainee, said that the invitation has been issued for 1pm tomorrow at the President’s Office. Dr. Shainee is also the lead counsel from the Government in the all-party talks.
He said the invitation was issued as the Government recognized that MDP’s biggest concern was the incarceration of Nasheed.
“The Government wants to carry out the discussions. We will take any measure to facilitate it; the invitation was issued in this view,” he said.
Dr. Shainee added that the Government had invited UN to act as an independent observer to the discussions, to ensure the impartiality of the talks and to speed up the discussions.
MDP had expressed interest in taking part in the discussions when UN Assistant Secretary General visited the Maldives this year.
