MDP had done everything to free Nasheed: Shifaz

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Vice President Mohamed Shifaz has said that the party had done everything they could to free their leader and former President, Mohamed Nasheed, when he was imprisoned.
Speaking at MDP’s congress in AA Ukulhas on Saturday, Shifaz said that Nasheed’s time in prison had been a major setback for the party.
Giving his speech, Shifaz said that he wouldn’t have thought Nasheed would be away from MDP for long when he was first appointed to Vice President.
He said that the time Nasheed spent in prison after his ‘unlawful’ conviction was a huge setback for MDP, but that despite this, the party had continued to align its work with the wishes of its members.
Shifaz also noted how everyone at the congress had made their decisions based on their own beliefs peacefully and with civility.
