President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced the government has drafted a bill aimed at fostering patriotic young people who love and respect the principles of Islam. He made the statement while officiating the ceremony held at Kulhudhuffushi City to mark the National Youth Day.
At the ceremony, President Solih said another purpose for drafting the bill is to cultivate and nurture responsible and productive citizens. The president highlighted that guiding the youth towards achieving their aspirations and facilitating prospective opportunities are also among the reasons why the government drafted the bill. He added that he anticipates the bill to pave the way for meaningful contributions towards the progress of the nation. Young people need to be provided with more opportunities to pursue higher education and a career for the benefit of the nation, he also stated.
President Solih highlighted how some young people refuse to participate in the job market, allowing expatriates to fill jobs. He said citizens need to begin thinking deeply about solving the issue, as hiring Maldivians will allow the country to circulate wealth within the national economy.
Additionally, President Solih said the government is providing educational opportunities to build an educated and capable younger generation. He implored young people to take advantage of these opportunities and use their formative years to build their future.
