Criminal Court has provided the opportunity to appeal to the verdict of 13 years of imprisonment issued on Former President Nasheed.
The issued verdict can be appealed before 29th of March. However، previously the due date of the appeal was Sunday، 22nd March.
A senior official of Criminal Court has informed that the appeal of the case has no obstruction since the legal officers of Nasheed have been provided with the summary report of the trial.
“Summary report is sufficient to appeal to the case، and lawyers of Nasheed have been provided with the report. Therefore، the appeal procedure has no obstruction” Official stated.
The circular issued by Supreme Court، Magistrate Court and Tribunal on the appeal states that within 10 days of the verdict the appeal form should be submitted to the court.
The 10 days are counted by omitting the date of the verdict issued and the due date. The public holidays that come in between are not counted as well.
After the appeal form is submitted to the above courts، the courts should submit the relevant documents to the high court، states the circular.
When the relevant documents are submitted to the High Court، the appeal hearings should begin within seven days stated the circular.
