Nasheed can be sent abroad once medical board approves: Corrections

Commissioner of Correctional Services Ibrahim Husham has said that former President Mohamed Nasheed can be transferred abroad for medical treatment, once the medical board gives the approval.
Speaking to Miadhu, Husham said that Nasheed was consulted by Dr. Shan from IGMH, when he requested for medical assistance. He was consulted by Dr. Niyaf at ADK, after Dr. Shan had made the referral.
He said that the doctors have informed Nasheed that there were two forms of treatment for Nasheed; both forms of surgery can be carried out in ADK. He added that the doctors have recommended a third option for Nasheed.
“The third option can be considered once the medical reports come back. I have been informed that Nasheed can seek physiotherapy for his issues, without resorting to surgeries,” he said.
Husham said that any treatment from abroad can only be given for convicts after the medical board approves such a treatment. He added that the medical board will approve the treatments if the treatment can only be sought from abroad.
Husham further said that Nasheed had to make a decision on the form of treatment he seeks. He said that once the decision was made, the Service will provide all the services possible.
