Statistics from the Tourism Ministry show a 15 percent increase in tourist arrivals this June compared to the same period last year.
According to the statistics publicized by the Ministry on Sunday, Maldives recorded 141,772 tourists in June, up from 123,284 in June of the previous year.
Maldives recorded a total of 1,136,486 tourist arrivals as of last Saturday. Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have increased by nine percent in the first six months of this year compared to the same period last year.
The highest number of tourist arrivals has been recorded from China with 148,951 arrivals. Russia follows in second with 130,967 arrivals, while Italy follows in third with 87,647 arrivals.
As per the statistics, Maldives sees an average of 6,000 daily tourist arrivals.
Maldives currently has a bed capacity of 64,275, of which 68 percent accounts for resorts.
Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) is undertaking significant efforts to promote Maldives across the world as a tourist destination. As part of these efforts, the Corporation has teamed up with English football club Liverpool for a wide range of campaigns.
