Lawyers unable to meet with Ex-President Nasheed

The lawyers، of the former President and the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) leader Mohamed Nasheed، have stated they are still unable to meet with Ex-President Nasheed after he was convicted.
Lawyer Ibrahim Rif’ath said although no reasons were stated، the Police had said they cannot meet with Ex-President.
Ex-President Nasheed was sentenced for 13 years in jail، by the Criminal Court on Friday night. He was pressed with terrorism charges for alleged unlawful detention of Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdulla ‘Gaazee’ Mohamed in 2012.
The defence attorneys of Ex-President Nasheed had refrained from continuing with the case، claiming they were not granted enough time for evaluation of the case.
Rif’ath further said that although 10 days are given to appeal، it is deeply concerning they cannot meet with Ex-President Nasheed.
Police have not commented on the matter yet.
