Abdullah Shafeeu (Abo), 28, Hisaan, HDh. Vaikaradhoo, who has made a mark in graphic design, has received the Youth Award.
Abo, who is a visual editor of Adhadhu News, received this year’s Youth Award in the field of arts. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih presented the award to Abo during the function held to present Youth Awards to the recipients of this year’s Youth Award. This year 10 recipients received Youth Awards.
Abo is a Thaana Lettering (Alphabets of Local Language) specialized artist who has done a lot of work in Thaana Lettering. Abo has been working tirelessly in this field for 11 years and has played a key role in many big projects and various media outlets. Before joining Adhadhu News he has worked in Avas News, Vaguthu News, and Jazeera News.

Abo’s notable work in the media includes his campaign to establish Vaguthu Online, his work as a creative director at Avas Online, and what he is currently doing as a visual director for Adhadhu News.
As a visual editor, Abo has been looking at the work of photographers, videographers, and designers, giving them ideas, feedback, education, creating and developing people and guiding them. His work has brought new designers into the media industry.

Abo has also worked in the President’s Office and Islamic University. During the tenure of former president Mohamed Waheed, he worked in the Communications Department of the President’s Office and during the time when the Islamic University was newly established and efforts were made to develop it. Abo had designed the exterior cover of most of the books it needed and the gowns for university graduation.

Apart from his job as a visual editor of Adhadhu News, he has registered a private company called Encrea and is the art director of the company. With the company most memorable work he has done so far is the entire branding of the SAFF Championship, which was an international level of work.
Moreover, the lettering work of ‘Magey Mahaldib’, the Maldivian campaign of the tournament, the branding of the Maldives Sports Award and the South Asian Junior Cadet Table Tennis Tournament are also notable works of Abo with the team of Encrea. And with Encrea he is working under “Akuru Type Foundry” to create modern Dhivehi font.
Furthermore, developed and has been running his own website “Vaahaka Online” for those interested in reading stories. All its work is being done free of cost, and so far more than 6,000 stories have been published on the website. More than 1,500 authors were allowed on the website.
In addition to these efforts, Abo has also done a number of social service philanthropic work over the past 11 years. One of the most notable works was the designs of the exterior cover, interior drawings and layouts of the Mushafs, which were designed to be distributed in the islands of the country in 2015 under the government’s ‘Mushaf Maldheef’. Apart from Mushafs, the Islamic Organisation for Cultural and Civilization (IOCC) logo and other designs have been designed for the organisation.
Additionally, with his talent in lettering, he has designed the logos of many media outlets and these logos include his lettering. Also, letterings of most of the Dark Rain Entertainment’s films have been designed by Abo.
Abo’s vision and mission is to expand and strengthen the sector in the country by attracting new youth into the designing and lettering field. Abo, who won the Youth Award, hopes to bring laurels and a good name to the Maldives in the field.
