The Elections Commission (EC) has announced that nominations are now open for positions on the newly established Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC). This opportunity follows the recent enactment of the MMBC.
Applications will be accepted until 14:00 on the 4th of next month. A total of four positions are available, comprising two seats for broadcasters and two for media representatives.
Interested applicants must submit their forms and supporting documents at the Election Commission office, located on the 5th Floor of the Ports Complex, Hilaalee Magu, Male' city. The office will be open for submissions from 09:00 to 14:00 daily, except Fridays. On Fridays, applications will be accepted from 15:00 to 17:00.
The EC will communicate updates regarding the application process to candidates via the email address provided in their application forms.
The election for the MMBC 2025 is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 11, from 09:00 to 16:00.
Regulations for the election of commission members were gazetted by the EC on Wednesday. These regulations stipulate that one representative from each media outlet registered in the Maldives, in accordance with the Act, is eligible to vote in the election.
According to the regulations, applicants for the MMBC must be afforded a 10-day application period. Candidates will be notified of their eligibility to contest the election within two days of their application. The election must be held at least two days after the public announcement of the eligible candidates' names.
