The job of the former President Mohamed Nasheed’s legal team is to deliver him from the sentence and defend him from the charges pressed، says Nasheed’s legal team.
On a letter signed by Lawyer Hassan Latheef، responding to Home Minister Umar Naseer’s letter in which he stated that ‘lawyers only entertain Nasheed during daily visits’، the legal team of Nasheed stated that they are ‘doing their job’ and ‘are undertaking many tasks’.
“As such، a case has been submitted at UN’s working group on arbitrary detention. We are also working on the appeal process as the government and PG had said it is still possible to appeal،” the letter read.
The letter further noted that the verdict and the trial procedure is ‘amusing’ and therefore it is ‘natural to have a laugh when speaking about the case’.
In addition، the lawyers urged the home minister not to use his complaints “as an excuse” to narrow or deny the former president his constitutional right to legal representation.
