During the official Independence Day ceremony, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu bestowed prestigious national honours on distinguished Maldivian figures in recognition of their exceptional contributions to the nation.
Former Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan was awarded the title Nishan Izzuddeen Izzathuge Verikamuge Lagabu in recognition of his vital contributions to the judiciary, human resource development in the legal sector, and legal advisory services. Muthasim retired this month, marking the first honourable retirement of a Chief Justice in Maldivian history. He has served as Chief Justice since 2019 and previously served as a Supreme Court Justice from 2010 to 2014.
Qasim Ibrahim was awarded the Distinguished Order of Izzuddin and the Honorary Order of Mulee’aage. Starting his business career by mortgaging his land in 1976, Qasim has since become a leading resort owner and a key figure in the Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. His humanitarian efforts in healthcare and significant contributions to education have been widely acknowledged. He also served in high-ranking state positions, including Minister of Finance and Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority, playing a pivotal role in constitutional reforms as President of the Special Majlis.
Hassan Sabir received the Distinguished Order of Izzuddin for his longstanding service across multiple economic sectors, including tourism, fisheries, agriculture, and foreign affairs. Beginning his government service in 1973, Sabir has held ministerial positions and diplomatic posts, currently serving as the Maldivian Ambassador to Japan. His over 38 years of dedicated service have been instrumental in the country’s development.
