Parliament approves Dr Shabeena as Non-Resident Ambassador to Indonesia

The Maldives' Parliament has approved the appointment of Dr Mariyam Shabeena Ahmed as the Maldives’ Non-Resident Ambassador to Indonesia.
In accordance with Article 14 of the Maldives Foreign Service Act, the nomination of Dr Mariyam Shabeena for the post was submitted to the Parliament by the President on 13 May. Following a review by the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations, the committee concluded that Dr Shabeena was qualified for the position and endorsed her nomination by majority vote on 22 June.
The Parliament approved the appointment on 24 June, with 49 members voting in favour. Dr Shabeena currently serves as the Maldives’ Ambassador to Malaysia.
Under Maldivian law, ambassadors and non-resident ambassadors are appointed by the President with the approval of the Parliament.
