The Maldives Labour and Social Democratic Party, or Labour Party as they are commonly known, has endorsed 10 candidates for Saturday’s parliamentary election. 
The 10 candidates include individuals fielded by the government coalition’s Maldivian Democratic Party, Adhaalath Party, Jumhooree Party, opposition People’s National Congress, as well as independent candidates. 
The Labour Party says they had met with candidates who requested endorsement, and carried out an evaluation for each of them before a final decision.

The Labour Party was formed late last year, and was officially inaugurated in January. 
The party’s policies focuses primarily on workers’ rights, and supports welfare as well as gender equality in working environments. 
The party is fielding candidates for the election as well.
