Minister at President’s Office, Ahmed Sameer, resigned on February 1 from his post as Secretary General of Jumhooree Party (JP).
Chief Spokesperson for JP, Ali Solih, stated that Minister Sameer resigned over being unable to take part in the day to day proceedings of JP and his duties to the state at the same time.
“JP’s leader, its leadership and its members all express thanks to Sameer’s work,” said Ali Solih, who is also State Minister of Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology.
He extended his guarantee that Minister Sameer would work with the party in the future as well.
Minister Sameer was appointed JP’s Secretary General in mid-2014, and since then has been involved in a leadership position in various political activities.
JP has assigned former State Minister for Ministry of Health, Hussain Rasheed, as the replacement for Minister Sameer. Hussain Rasheed had joined the governing coalition’s JP in February 2018.
Moosa Mushtaq has been appointed to take over as Deputy Secretary-General of JP.
Ali Solih added that Hussain Rasheed’s appointment as Secretary-General has been informed to the Election’s Commission (EC).
