Maldives Police Service, on Sunday, arrested a 60-year-old man for sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl.
The man was apprehended at approximately 1730 hrs under an arrest warrant.
The case was initially reported on February 1 from an island within the North Police Division which consists of the atolls of Noonu, Raa, Baa and Lhaviyani.
According to the police, the girl was working as a cashier at a retail outlet when the man entered the premises and assaulted her.
Stating that the investigation was underway, the police reiterated that all cases involving sexual violence against children are investigated as a serious offence.
