Nasheed will be back, be brave: Ali Waheed
Nasheed – who was found guilty of terrorism charges for the arrest of Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdulla Mohamed – is being kept at Dhoonidhoo Prison. However, Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that he would be transferred to Maafushi Prison within a week’s time once a special unit is built there to accommodate Nasheed. Ali Waheed described the moment he heard news of Nasheed’s jail sentence as “the saddest moment” of his life. God willing, Nasheed will make a comeback. Keep your hopes up. Keep your confidence up. Pray. Be united and be brave,” he said. Ali Waheed is under criticism from some MDP members who feel MDP leadership lived up to the supporters’ expectations when Nasheed was convicted. “I accept that I will sometimes face criticism, same as I sometimes hear praise. I have no hard feeling over it. I shall proceed with vision,” he said, in answer to such criticism. Alleging that it was a move by President Abdulla Yameen to come down on competition for next presidential election, MDP Parliamentary Group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said Nasheed still remained MDP leader and their presidential candidate. Nasheed’s lawyers have decided to appeal his sentence.
