The government has extended the opening hours of local retail shops until 01:00hrs in the morning for Ramadan, confirmed the President's Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed on Friday.
The Ministry of Economic Development has confirmed that shops and retail outlets can operate from 05:30hrs until 01:00hrs from 1st of Ramadan until 7th of Shawwal.
Eateries and cafeterias can operate from 17:30hrs every evening until 03:00hrs.
Confirming the new business hours for Ramadan, Heena said these operating hours reflect the government's priortization of enhancing ease and comfort for the public.
Maldives has begun observing the Hijri calendar month of Ramadan from March 1, 2025 onward.
Besides this, the government also announced extending 10 percent discounts on utility bills during the Islamic sacred month.
