A dedicated portal has been launched that allows the public to easily track essential food prices during the month of Ramadan. The Economic Ministry officially launched the “Agu Magu” online portal on Friday.
The primary purpose of this application is to inform the public on where essential food items are available at the lowest cost. The Economic Ministry said food prices can be checked from a single platform using the portal.
The information included in the portal is updated based on weekly statistics collected by the Economic Ministry’s inspection teams visiting shops and markets.
At the launching ceremony, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said the application is designed to make it easier for people to check food prices from their homes. The food items included in the portal are items classified as essential items under international standards.
The minister said in the coming days, businesses will be given the opportunity to access the application and enter the prices themselves.
"This is just the beginning. Our goal is to further develop this platform and establish a system where people can easily identify where they can get the cheapest goods," the Minister said.
Currently, the portal includes the prices of goods sold in shops in Male’ and Hulhumale’. However, in the coming days, the portal will also include the prices of goods sold by shops operating in the islands, according to the Ministry.
