Speaker Nasheed to leave for US

Maldives Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed will be traveling to the United States, to take part in the annual meeting of World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF).
According to parliament's secretariat, the former Maldivian president had accepted IMF's invitation for the meeting. Nasheed is expected to leave for Washington, DC, sometime on Wednesday evening, October 12.
Nasheed will conclude his visit to the US on October 19.
The Speaker is expected to participate in the "Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) held at at the sidelines of the World Bank and IMF annual meeting. He will discuss climate impact and challenges to climate combat.
Finance ministers from 20 global nations will be participating in the forum as well.
"From the countries included in the forum, 20 of those are looking at possible economic impact in the next two years with some of them hitting below sovereign defaults," Nasheed commented, indicating the issues that will be discussed.
Prior to his trip, Nasheed addressed on the current financial condition at a global scale. He observes that global economies were facing tumultuous times, and were heading towards another era of uncertainty. The Speaker confirms such pressing matters will be top priority in the discussions.
