Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital Launches Telemedicine Pilot Project

A telemedicine pilot project has been launched at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital. The service was launched by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, during an official ceremony held on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the hospital.
Health services have been available in Kulhudhuffushi since the late 1960s. However, health services were formally introduced as an essential service in 1982. Over the past 43 years, the hospital has seen considerable progress. Adding to the hospital’s successes, three new services were launched at the anniversary function, including the telemedicine pilot project.
The telemedicine service will be provided at the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and Faafu Atoll Hospital. The services not available in Faafu Atoll will be provided by the Kulhuhuffushi Hospital, and the services not available in the Kulhudhuffushi Hospital will be provided through IGMH. This will also support online posting of test results.
Speaking at the ceremony, Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nazima Ali said the hospital is working to further strengthen the services provided by the hospital.
“According to the hospital's statistics, the highest number of referrals issued from the hospital are for heart diseases and stroke cases. We believe that with the introduction of telemedicine services, the hospital will see further growth,” Nazima said.
In addition to telemedicine, a special clinic for non-communicable diseases and endometriosis services were also inaugurated at the ceremony. According to the hospital, the establishment of the clinic will help prevent non-communicable diseases early and build a healthy society. Noting that endometriosis as a painful disease women suffer, the introduction of endometriosis-related services will further expand treatment options as well as facilitate easier access to services for those suffering from such pain, the hospital said.
The ceremony also recognised those who have contributed to the development of the hospital in various ways and those who have served for a long time. Plaques were also presented to the best employees of the hospital.
A minute of silence was observed in memory of the late Hassan Ahmed and the late Mohamed Hassan, who both served the hospital for many years.
