Nation’s Development Depends on Health and Well-Being, Says First Lady

First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed has emphasised that the health of a nation, including physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, is fundamental to its development. She made these remarks at the 43rd anniversary celebration of Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.
Speaking at the event, held Sunday evening at Kulhudhuffushi Ports Limited, the First Lady emphasised the importance of ensuring accessible, high-quality healthcare for the Kulhudhuffushi City region. She also highlighted the transformative role of technology in the health sector, describing President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s “Maldives 2.0” initiative as a revolutionary step towards enhancing the national healthcare system.
The First Lady also noted that Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital had treated over 120,000 patients in the past year alone. She said utilising modern technology is the most effective means of delivering an efficient and reliable treatment system.
The First Lady also noted that reforming one’s own lifestyle habits, improving access to health education, developing knowledge and skills in the healthcare field and ensuring the necessary resources and facilities are important to building a healthy society. She stressed that the health of a nation, including physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, is fundamental to its development.
In her speech, she noted the progress and success Maldives is making in strengthening the health services despite the challenges in delivering health services despite geographic challenges. She also expressed gratitude to the staff of the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital for their efforts in the development of the hospital.
As part of the ceremony, several new services were launched at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital. The First Lady inaugurated the telemedicine service and the endometriosis clinic, while the Director General of Health Services, Dr Ahmed Ashraf, opened the new non-communicable diseases (NCDs) clinic.
The event also honoured individuals and organisations for their contributions to the hospital’s development, as well as retired staff members, through the presentation of commemorative plaques. In addition, employees were recognised with awards for outstanding performance and long service milestones of 10, 20, and 30 years. All plaques and awards were presented by the First Lady.
The First Lady arrived in Kulhudhuffushi City on Sunday morning, where she toured Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, inspected its facilities, and engaged with hospital staff.
