The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has issued a public warning urging increased vigilance after three medicines manufactured in Thailand were found to contain dangerous levels of harmful chemicals.
According to a notification from the Southeast Asia Region Network, the affected drugs—metformin hydrochloride 750 mg, ranitidine 150 mg, and vitamin A (retinol) 60 mg—exceeded permissible limits of a hazardous substance, posing potential health risks, especially to diabetic patients who commonly use these medications.
The MFDA confirmed that the specific brands in question have not been officially imported into the Maldives under national drug import regulations. However, authorities are cautioning the public, particularly those traveling to Thailand for medical treatment, to exercise extreme caution when purchasing or using medications from abroad.
