Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar have said that there is no one in Maldives who wants to commit acts of terror and harm the country.
Speaking at a press conference held at Coat Guard Building today, minister said that there are some people who think a bit differently when it comes to religion, but they do not want to destabilize the nation by harming others.
He further said that, now there are no political extremists either in Maldives and if there are such Maldivians, they are now living abroad. “We do not see extremist political activists now, we don’t see them disobeying the security forces and attacking them” said the Minister.
Adam Shareef also acknowledged the help of MATI in the counter terrorism efforts of Maldives.
The minister further said that they are consulting with NGOs, to see ways to raise awareness regarding terrorism. He said that even now they are conducting anti-terror awareness programs in the Maldives.
