The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) leader and the former President Mohamed Nasheed had stated the presiding three judges bench overseeing his trial are committing a felony، and urged the citizens to stop them from wrongdoing and bring them before justice.
Ex-President Nasheed made the statement during his hearing held at the Criminal Court on Monday.
He repeatedly requested he needed a defence attorney، and the presiding bench replied he was given the opportunity to appoint defence lawyers، and the opportunity remained.
Nasheed further alleged the presiding judges were adjudicating against the Constitution and said he believes the trial is not fair and just. “I am sure Maldives have never seen a ‘circus act’ like this ever.”
In addition، Nasheed said the judges are tyrannical and are failing the country. “This trial is not proceeding fairly. this is an unjust trial.”
Meanwhile، the legal team of Ex-President Nasheed withdrew from the case stating they believe they are not given enough time for case evaluation and a solid ground to provide legal assistance to Nasheed.
Nasheed is pressed with terrorism charges by the State، for the unlawful detaining and isolating of the Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdulla ‘Gaazee’ Mohamed in 2012.
