Sh. Narudhoo Council has reopened the opportunity for individuals who currently hold “Basic Plots” for farming but failed to submit their applications previously. This extension is intended for those who were unable to apply during the initial 2024 window due to various reasons.
In an announcement made today, Narudhoo Council stated that applications are now open for those seeking basic plots as stipulated under Article 5 of the “Regulation for Allocating Land for Farming” published on November 5, 2024.
These plots are designated for residents who are married to a person registered on the island’s permanent resident registry, or for citizens who own a house or land on the island.
The Council further noted that priority will be given to individuals living independently in their own households. Additionally, the Council clarified that plots previously allocated for banana cultivation, as well as those currently being used for that purpose, can only be maintained further by applying to keep them as a “Basic Plot” during this period.
Recipients of these basic plots must fulfill all responsibilities associated with land use under the farming land allocation regulations. The Council highlighted that this initiative aims to strengthen the agricultural sector and ensure that island land is utilized in accordance with established policies.
The Council requests those interested in applying under this opportunity to collect and complete the forms from the Council Office and submit them along with the required documentation before 14:00 on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
