All airports in the Maldives are now equipped with night landing facilities, Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen announced on Wednesday.
The final installation was completed at Funadhoo Airport, marking the achievement of a key national target set by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Minister Ameen described the milestone as a major step forward for the Maldivian aviation sector.
Night landing infrastructure includes aeronautical ground lighting (AGL) systems, navigational aids and rotating beacons, enabling aircraft to land safely after dark.
“A truly remarkable day for Maldives aviation. From tonight, all airports across the Maldives are equipped with night-landing facilities, with Funadhoo becoming the final airport to come online”.
The Maldives currently operates 18 airports, including five international airports: Velana, Gan, Hanimaadhoo, Maafaru and Hoarafushi.
Night landing facilities now available at every airport in Maldives, says Minister Ameen
