The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has announced changes to the procedure for issuing permanent quotas to employers through the Xpat System, under the Employment of Foreigners in Maldives Regulations.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the ministry said that from Thursday onward, employers applying for permanent quota work‑site registration must submit a notarized Work Site Declaration Form and an affidavit. Both documents are now available on the Xpat System homepage.
The ministry noted that it may request additional documents if further clarification is needed during the registration process.
For work sites registered on rented properties, the ministry may require employers to submit a copy of the rental agreement between the property or landowner and the employer, along with any other supporting documents deemed necessary.
Employers who already hold permanent quota allocations have been instructed to upload the Work Site Declaration Form and affidavit through the “Document Update Request” or “Site Permit Update” options for each registered site.
The ministry warned that failure to submit the required documents within the specified period will result in suspension of the site.
The government says the changes are part of ongoing efforts to regularize expatriate employment and strengthen action against illegal foreign workers in the Maldives.
