Nimal, in critical condition following stroke, to be flown abroad for further treatment

Veteran Maldivian actor and director Ahmed Nimal, who is in critical condition following a stroke, is to be flown abroad for further treatment.
Nimal was taken to ADK Hospital on the evening of last Wednesday after suffering a stroke. He was transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) the next day.
While Nimal remains in critical condition, Sun has learned that doctors have permitted the veteran actor and director to be flown overseas for further treatment.
Nimal, 62, is regarded as one of the most versatile figures in the Maldivian film industry, with a career spanning acting, directing, editing, writing and producing. He has directed several well‑known films, including Zalzala, Valoabi Engeynama, Khalas and others.
He is also widely respected for his acting range, having appeared in numerous lead roles as well as memorable father‑figure characters. Among his notable performances are roles in Veerana, Niuma, Mihashin Furaana Dhaandhen and Neyngi Yaaru Vakivy.
His most celebrated recent performance came in the 2023 hit film Loabi Vevijje.
Nimal’s only son, Mohamed Jumayyil, is also a prominent actor in the Maldivian film industry.
