The Ministry of Social and Family Development has announced that its "Haalu Kihineh?" programme has successfully visited more than 17,000 households across 17 Atolls in a bid to identify and assist vulnerable families.
Minister of Social and Family Development, Dr Aishath Shiham emphasised the initiative’s goal of building a compassionate society by proactively understanding citizens' needs and delivering targeted support before crises arise.
Launched in Hulhumale’s second phase, the programme prioritises direct engagement with communities to uncover pressing concerns such as housing shortages, medical treatment costs, and challenges in accessing social security benefits. Minister Aishath Shiham highlighted the government’s shift from reactive to preventive welfare measures, countering past trends where officials engaged only after public outcry.
With complaints ranging from healthcare access to financial aid delays, the Ministry is now streamlining assistance mechanisms. The ‘Haalu Kihineh?’ initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to inclusive development by bridging gaps between policy and grassroots realities.
