40 accidents in Male’ last week; 20% happened on bridge and highway

Total 40 road accidents took place in the Maldivian capital last week, 20 percent of which took place on the bridge and highway that connects Male’ City with Hulhumale’ and Hulhule’.
According to data shared by the police on Tuesday, 40 accidents were reported from Male’, the Sinamale’ Bridge, and the Hulhumale’ Highway between October 5-11.
This includes 10 different accidents reported on October 9 alone.
The data shows that 32 of the 40 accidents took place within Male’, while eight accidents or 20 percent of accidents took place on the Sinamale’ Bridge and Hulhumale’ Highway.
The data also shows that 30 out of the 40 accidents involved motorcycles. This included 11 motorcycle-on-car collisions, eight motorcycle-on-motorcycle collisions, three motorcycle-on- van collisions, two motorcycle-on-pickup collisions, two motorcycle-on-pedestrian collisions, two motorcycle-on-bus collisions, and two motorcycle-on-bicycle collisions.
30 of the accidents or 75 percent of the accidents took place during day time, while the other 10 accidents or 25 percent of the accidents took place during night time.
The accidents resulted in injuries to four people, including one person who sustained serious injuries.
It also resulted in damages to 37 vehicles.
The populous Maldivian capital sees a high number of road accidents each year, some of which have resulted in fatalities.
