Tourism Minister Ali Waheed says it is important to introduce cultural tourism to the Maldives in order to develop the industry.
Tourism Minister made the remarks during a speech delivered at the World Tourism Conference, which is currently ongoing in Malaysia.
During his speech delivered at the first session of the conference was titled “Future of Tourism – New Sources of Growth”, Minister Ali Waheed spoke of the Maldives’ current plans of further developing the tourism industry and how the country plans to achieve its goals. He revealed that the country is working to expand into cultural tourism, so as to offer tourists the opportunity to have a firsthand experience of Maldivian culture and traditions.
World Tourism Conference (WTC) 2019 will take place at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 26 – 28 August 2019. The theme of the WTC 2019 is “Beyond Tourism – Beyond Expectation”. It is organized by United Nations World Tourism Organization, UNWTO’s Regional Department for Asia and the Pacific. The conference was opened by Malaysia’s Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed.
During his visit to Malaysia, Minister Ali Waheed will hold discussions with Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia, Mohammadin bin Haji Ketapi, regarding enhancing tourism corporation between the two countries. The Minister is also scheduled to meet with senior officials of Limkokwing University Malaysia and discuss how the institute can assist Maldives in developing human resource within the tourism sector.
