Pre-summit workshops conclude ahead of Asia Media Summit

Pre-summit workshops ahead of the 21st Asia Media Summit (AMS) in the Maldives have concluded successfully.
The summit is jointly organised by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development and Public Service Media (PSM). Under the theme “Maldives 2.0: From Tradition to Tech”, the event is held from 11 to 14 May at Villa Nautica Resort.
Five workshops were conducted at Villa Nautica, Hulhule’ Island Hotel and Manhattan Business Hotel. Workshop topics included social media engagement and audience growth, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging media technologies, building trust in digital media, climate change and disaster journalism, and AI tools for news production and visual storytelling.
The session on social media engagement and audience growth covered digital storytelling, short-form videos and influencer collaboration, and campaign creation using data from media organisations. Moreover, information on AI automation, cloud production and modern broadcasting infrastructure was shared.
Under the topic of building trust in digital media, risks of AI, circulation of misinformation and threats to editorial independence were discussed. Responsible disaster reporting and climate-related challenges to countries such as the Maldives were also highlighted. Practical AI training for scriptwriting, fact-checking and graphic creation were also provided as part of the sessions.
Participants from across the Asia-Pacific region praised the workshops and expert speakers. More than 300 delegates are attending the summit, with around 80 percent from overseas.
The Asia Media Summit will be officially inaugurated on 12 May, and the summit sessions will continue until 13 May. The event will conclude with a special coral-planting event in Kudagiri on 14 May.
