Pay harmonisation salary discrepancies to be resolved this month

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that salary discrepancies linked to the National Pay Commission’s pay harmonisation initiative will be resolved this month. He made the announcement during a press briefing held at the President’s Office.
During the briefing, the President stated that some civil service employees in the human resources and legal sectors, as well as individuals in certain council positions, had not benefited from the pay harmonisation initiative. He noted that, rather than receiving salary increases, the remuneration of these individuals had remained unchanged.
The President said the Pay Commission had assured that the issue would be addressed from May onwards. He further assured that the Commission would review and resolve any similar issues arising from the pay harmonisation process.
The President also briefed journalists on the progress of “Operation Kurangi”, the administration’s flagship initiative aimed at addressing the issue of undocumented expatriates. He emphasised that the operation is not intended to punish individuals, but rather to ensure their safety through proper identification, documentation, and accountability regarding their whereabouts.
He stated that the issue of expatriates had been given inadequate attention in the past, leaving many vulnerable to exploitation. He noted that 98 percent of expatriates currently residing in the Maldives are now documented, with fingerprint records and photo-based biometric data collected to support regularisation and accountability efforts.
The President said that the issue of undocumented expatriates remains a serious concern, adding that the administration is working towards implementing a successful and comprehensive solution.
