Fuvahmulah city in water crisis: Supply halted for repairs

Water service in Fuvahmulah City was temporarily suspended on Monday due to a major leak in the main distribution line, according to a notice issued by Fenaka Corporation.
The interruption began at 13:00 and is expected to last until 18:00, though officials now estimate it may take up to two days to fully resolve the issue. In a follow-up notice circulating on social media, Fenaka stated that chlorine is being added to the water network for cleaning purposes, and advised residents not to use the water during this period as it is not safe for consumption.
Fenaka also reminded customers to turn off water purifiers during the outage and apologized for the inconvenience.
The Fuvahmulah City Council, which serves a population of over 11,000, held an emergency meeting with Fenaka officials on Monday evening. Councilor Abdullah Nasir Ahmed told Sun that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is coordinating efforts to send drinking water to affected residents.
Meanwhile, many locals have turned to shops to purchase bottled water, as Fenaka’s supply is used for all household needs.
