Former Minister Abdullah Kamaluddin has been appointed CEO of the Maumoon Foundation by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
The Maumoon Foundation, established in 2010, is a private organization dedicated to supporting religious, cultural, and educational initiatives. In a social media post announcing the appointment, President Maumoon said he trusts Kamaluddin’s experience will contribute positively to the foundation’s work.
Speaking to Sun, Kamaluddin said he would lead the foundation in accordance with President Maumoon’s guidance and in collaboration with its executive committee.
“This is not something done via one’s own vision,” he said. “The Maumoon Foundation has an exco. Everyone will be more involved in implementing decisions based on participation.”

Kamaluddin also highlighted the foundation’s recent memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, signed on December 31. Under the agreement, the foundation and ministry will cooperate on religious and social initiatives, including:
Planning a long-term restoration project for the Islamic Centre
Making President Maumoon’s religious publications available in the Islamic Centre library
Collaborating on the creation of a digital archive and library for the foundation
Supporting joint activities in religious education and community engagement
Kamaluddin has long been associated with President Maumoon’s political efforts. After serving as a minister, he joined the Jumhoory Party before returning to support Maumoon during the formation of the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM). He also contested the 2019 parliamentary elections with Maumoon’s backing.
