The Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam had testified against the former President Mohamed Nasheed، who is being tried for terrorism charges accused of unlawfully detaining the criminal court chief judge Abdulla ‘Ghazy’ Mohamed in 2012.
During the hearing held on Thursday night، Shiyam had stated in the criminal court that Nasheed said during a meeting that he will take the full responsibility of detaining the judge.
According to Shiyam، Nasheed made the statement in a meeting with MNDF officers ranking from Colonel and higher، after the officers openly disapproved detaining of Judge Abdulla.
Shiyam stated after the then Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Rtd. Ahmed Mohamed expressed disapproval of detaining the Judge، Nasheed told them they do not need to take any blame of detaining the judge.
Shiyam further said Nasheed also stated in the meeting that he will provide a document to take the full responsibility of the operation، upon asked if he would.
The State presented two more witnesses to prove Judge Abdulla Mohamed was taken to Girifushi after detaining him – Medical Officer First Lieutenant Dr. Ali Shahid Mohamed and Warrant Officer Aishath Zeena.
The two witnesses had testified against Nasheed and provided the evidence that Judge Abdulla was taken to Girifushi and kept ‘detained’ there.
