In reference with a trusted source، the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had stated that powerful equipment of anesthesia was gathered recently، to harm ex-President Mohamed Nasheed، who has been sentenced to 13 years in prison on terrorism charges.
On a statement released today، MDP says a top official of the Government، in collaboration with a health official، had brought in powerful equipment of anesthesia very recently.
MDP said the news was disclosed by a trusted source to the family of President Nasheed and to the party.
Using health equipment، especially equipment and necessities for operations and surgeries، for private uses outside the health sector are illegal in Maldives، MDP highlighted in their statement.
“Such equipment and necessities especially for health related issues، are used privately by criminal organizations to harm people،” MDP said.
MDP further said the party is concerned that such dangerous equipment were gathered for a private use. “After being informed by a very trusted source، we are in grave concern regarding the well-being of President Nasheed.”
In addition، the opposition party had highlighted in their statement that they، along with the family of Nasheed، have undertaken numerous efforts previously to defend Nasheed being harms and to stop the threats being imposed on him.
MDP has called on Human Rights Commissions of the Maldives and other local and international organizations to protect ex-President Nasheed from harm’s way، while he is kept in prison.
