After concluding the trip to Sri Lanka، the delegation memeber of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) stated ‘except for two foreign entities، all the others were concerned only regarding the Ex-President Mohamed Nasheed’.
A delegation of PPM visited Sri Lanka to meet with foreign entities to share the information of the current ongoing trials in Maldives.
During a press conference held today at the PPM office، Spokesperson of PPM، also a member of the delegation، Ali Arif told the press that only two foreign entities were concerned with the trials of others، while the rest were concerned with only Nasheed’s trial.
“[..but] the terrorism charges were pressed against five. In addition to President Nasheed، the State also pressed charges against the then MNDF Male’ Area Commander Brigadier General Rtd. Ibrahim Mohamed Didi، the then Chief of Defence Force Major General Rtd. Moosa Ali Jaleel، the then Defence Minister Tholhath Ibrahim Kileygefaanu، the then Colonel Mohamed Ziyad. Five people were pressed with the same charges. But only two asked regarding the other four. Everyone were concerned with President Nasheed،” Ali Arif said.
He said questions arise since the foreign entities are concerned only with President Nasheed. He said the reason maybe due to the statements of Nasheed during his presidency were accepted by the said foreign entities.
Ali Arif further said that although Nasheed was a former President، he should face judgment and be punished for a crime he committed.
He said the foreign countries should not interfere in the domestic affairs of the Maldives، and that it is disheartening to know certain foreign countries are releasing the statement without ‘fact checking’ regarding the situation in Maldives.
“We invite the foreign entities to visit Maldives، to observe the actual situation in Maldives. The government given the opportunity to international organizations to visit Nasheed. We ask them to come and observe and inform what is going wrong،” Arif further said.
