Home Minister Azleen Ahmed have said that no matter how angry some people get, the government cannot permit anyone to do anything that is impermissible in Islam.
Speaking at a ceremony held at Islamic Center this morning to mark World Human Rights Day, Azleen said that foreign groups are pressuring the government to permit things in Maldives which are forbidden in Islam.
He said that the government cannot allow freedom of religion, adultery, drinking, homosexuality, and abortion in Maldives. Azleen said though some people say that there is no democracy because we do not allow these things in Maldives, the government will not allow it. He said that these things are against the constitution of Maldives.
Azleen said that Maldives follow Quran and the Sunnah and hence will not allow anything that contradicts with the fundamentals of Islam.
In addition, he said that those who criticize the jails of Maldives do so without checking the facts properly. He said that the jails are in very good condition and the prisoners even have the option to choose what they want to eat from a menu. He said that the culture of torture in jail has ended and now the jails are peaceful and at a world class level.
