The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had begun their protest on the sea.
The protest began near T-Jetty (Male’ South Harbor) area with several sea vessels، with several banners calling for the immediate release of MDP leader and the former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Prior to the protest، Police had issued a statement urging the protesters to remain within the framework of the laws and not to hold any demonstrations at a place where it is illegal to assemble as per the Freedom of Assembly Law.
Police officers also personally checked the security and safety measures of the sea vessels before the opposition began their protest.
